Gay and Poulter Earn Their Cards After All

Gay, 45, has been on Tour long enough to have a proper skepticism. “I really expected the Tour would say tough luck,” he says. “I’m happy they stepped up and made it right… Gay got the news on Friday evening that the points he was awarded retroactively were enough to qualify him for the Players. Then another thought occurred to him: “Holy s—! I just got Ian Poulter his Tour card.”

It’s good to see the Tour was so quick to see the injustice being served here. Even better was their willingness to correct that injustice with so little argument. Hopefully we’ll see this willingness continue with the further elimination of other bad rules currently giving golf a black eye.
